Pilgrimage to Holy Land ~ Day 2 ~ Tel Aviv
A very long flight from Toronto to Isarael. Ten and a half hours. Actually the flight wasn’t as bad as I thought. I actually felt comfortable in the seats. Loosing thirty some pounds helps I guess.
At Ben Guirian Airport we were met by our Travel Guide and bus driver. Mickey the guide. Is Jewish and the driver is a Muslim. There are the best of friends. Mickey told us that when they work together, every morning the promise not to murder each other. I have heard this before that on the ordinary person to person side, Jews, Christian and Muslims can get along great....its the politicians who cause the trouble. Mickey also advised us that the news we often portray the situation as being constant was. Yes, there are problems, but Israel is a beautiful and remarkably safe country to visit. Probably safer than many parts of Cleveland.
Around Noon we arrived at our hotel which is a lot more plush than the ones I experienced when I was here in 1984. And talk about safety. When we got are rooms I went right away to take a nap, but some like Deacon Tom were on their balconies looking around when a number of cars carrying men with assault rifles came into the parking lot and entered the hotel lobby. Then some secret service type men in black suits came in and blocked off the auditorium.
Turns out that is the Prime Minister (Netanyahu ) favorite hotel and he was coming here for a fundraiser. He is up for re-election sometime in the next few weeks. There are large posters throughout Tel Aviv of him and our President embracing each other.
Anyhow, got to get up at 5 in the morning (immoral) so i will close with a few picture thanks to one of the pilgrims. I will hopefully have a lot more religious stuff to report tomorrow.
